Sarkodie’s visit to Kumasi without giving him a courtesy call disappoints Dr. UN
During the well-known Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s recent visit to Kumasi, Dr. Kwame Fordjour, often known as Dr. UN, expressed his disapproval of what he saw as an act of disrespect.
As a sign of respect for the nation’s leaders, Sarkodie made courtesy calls to the Ashanti Regional Minister and other important individuals as soon as he arrived in the Ashanti Regional capital. Dr. UN claims that despite his own self-proclaimed status as a prominent figure in the musical and cultural landscape of the region, the rapper did not show him the same decency.

In an interview, Dr. UN emphasised that Sarkodie ought to have acknowledged him as a significant figure, particularly because he once gave the rapper one of his notorious honours, which he says improved Sarkodie’s reputation internationally. Before giving interviews or participating in other public events, he said, the next logical step after meeting the Ashanti Regional Minister should have been to visit his own office.
“Sarkodie has not respected me. You came to Kumasi, you went to the Regional Minister, but you should have also visited Dr UN. I am your chairman because I once awarded you for your works. Even Otumfuo would ask why you didn’t pay me a visit if he gets to know about it,” Dr UN remarked.
He further speculated that Sarkodie may have intentionally avoided him out of fear that he might not be able to meet certain financial obligations if Dr UN chose to appear at the much-anticipated Rapperholic concert happening in Kumasi today. “Maybe he thinks he cannot pay me, but Dr UN does global things. Awarding Sarkodie made him a global icon, yet he came to Ashanti Region and refused to accord me the respect I deserve,” he added.
Dr UN has long been a controversial figure in Ghana, often making bold claims about his role in shaping the careers of notable personalities. His public outburst once again highlights his unusual relationship with celebrities, particularly Sarkodie, who was at the center of his controversial awards saga in 2020.
