Ghanaians Respond to Ken Ofori-Atta’s New Photo in the United States
After posting a picture of former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta strolling through the streets of the United States, Dzifa Gunu, the CEO of the Ghana Digital Centre, attracted attention from the public.
On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Dzifa Gunu shared the photo of Mr. Ofori-Atta walking with an elderly white woman close to 1200 New Hampshire Avenue in Washington, D.C., on his Facebook page. Following the ongoing court case involving the former minister, the image swiftly became popular on the internet, evoking comments from Ghanaians.

Due to accusations of financial impropriety while serving as Finance Minister, Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has proclaimed Ken Ofori-Atta wanted. The National Cathedral project, the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract, and other procurement-related activities are among the matters the OSP has been looking into.
When Mr. Ofori-Atta did not show up for interrogation earlier this year, the OSP issued an arrest order for him. He reportedly received medical care in the United States during his months-long absence from Ghana. Because of his disappearance, the OSP declared him a fugitive and asked Interpol to issue a Red Notice in order to help arrest and potentially extradite him.
The street photo shared by Dzifa Gunu has renewed public debate about Mr. Ofori-Atta’s situation. Many Ghanaians questioned how someone under an international alert could freely walk the streets abroad. Others commended Dzifa Gunu for exposing his location, hoping it could prompt U.S. authorities to act on Ghana’s extradition request.
The OSP maintains that Mr. Ofori-Atta must return home to face the allegations against him. This latest sighting in Washington, D.C., has added fresh pressure on both Ghanaian and U.S. authorities as Ghanaians await the next steps in the unfolding case.
