Prophet Owusu Bempah warns the NPP to change the candidate or risk losing the 2028 election.
Prophet Owusu Bempah, the powerful head of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has delivered a severe warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a dramatic intervention that combines spirituality and political strategy. He has framed the party’s devastating 2024 election loss as a divine rebuke rather than a straightforward political setback.
As the party gets ready for a very heated presidential primary on January 31, 2026, the widely shared statement was released.

The prophet claimed that disregarding spiritual direction by choosing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its 2024 flagbearer was the direct cause of the NPP’s inability to garner even 40% of the national vote, including a decline in traditional strongholds like the Ashanti Region.
“When God is speaking, it’s not luck—it’s a message,” the cleric declared, challenging the party to introspect deeply. He cautioned that repeating the same mistake would lead to an even more severe defeat in the 2028 general elections.
Prophet Owusu Bempah’s warning gives the internal race a powerful spiritual component, especially because the approaching primaries are anticipated to be a heated struggle between Dr. Bawumia and his major opponent, Kennedy Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central. When selecting the next standard-bearer, he asked party leaders and delegates to put spiritual guidance ahead of political considerations.
Ghanaians and party supporters have responded to the prophecy in different ways; some see it as a timely spiritual warning, while others reject it as an effort to sway the political process. In any case, the message emphasises how important—and frequently decisive—religious leaders and prophetic statements remain in influencing public sentiment and political results in Ghana’s thriving democracy.
