Mfantsipim SHS wins 2025 NSMQ, beats Augusco and Opoku Ware
Mfantsipim School, often known as BOTWE, successfully defended their national title in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), which produced yet another thrilling match.
The incumbent champions rose with accuracy, tenacity, and intellectual supremacy to win their unprecedented fourth national trophy in the grand finals, which took place at the University of Cape Coast’s SGS Auditorium.
After dominating Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) and Mankranso SHS in the semifinals, Mfantsipim went into this year’s final as the team to beat. This year’s victory is a remarkable back-to-back achievement, adding to their successful campaign in 2024.

Round One: Mfantsipim got off to a great start, finishing the first round with 20 points, well ahead of Opoku Ware School and St. Augustine’s College, which trailed by narrow margins. Early on, the reigning champs made it clear that they were prepared to defend their title.
Round Two: As the game heated up, St. Augustine’s gained momentum and won the round with 27 points. Opoku Ware finished the round with 17 points, maintaining hopes despite pressure, while Mfantsipim followed with 24.
Round Three: With a one-point victory over St. Augustine’s, the defending champions regained their advantage. Mfantsipim scored thirty points, Augustine scored twenty-nine, while Opoku Ware once more finished with seventeen.
The auditorium erupted with chants, counter-chants, and palpable tension as both supporters and contestants battled with strategy, poise, and substitutions.
Round Four: Mfantsipim continued to show championship temperament, maintaining a narrow lead with 46 points, ahead of St Augustine’s 42, while Opoku Ware struggled to close the gap with 29 points.
The grand finale reached its climax in the final round, and the atmosphere was electric. Mfantsipim sealed their back-to-back national triumph with 56 points, sending the crowd into wild celebration as the final bell rang. St. Augustine’s finished second with 42 points, and Opoku Ware ended with 29 points.Mfantsipim persevered to win the competition once more in spite of tough challenges from both opponents. After a fierce performance, St. Augustine’s College, vying for their third national title, finished second, while Opoku Ware School, representing the Ashanti Region and hoping to win the title again, placed third.
