Black Stars: Before the World Cup qualifiers, the government eliminates management committee winning bonuses

Members of the Black Stars Management Committee will no longer receive victory incentives, according to Kofi Adams, Minister of Youth and Sports.

Mr. Adams clarified during a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, September 2, that while the original budget for each game was $1 million, the Ministry has authorised $1.3 million to cover two games.

He explained that the $10,000 package that was previously given to committee members has been cancelled, but the players will still earn $5,000 each as a winning bonus in the next FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mr. Adams emphasised that management officials will only get their per diems and will no longer be eligible for bonuses based on game outcomes.

Additionally, he attacked the long-standing practice of providing winning bonuses to members of the Management Committee, especially during the most recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, when they were paid even though the Black Stars did not qualify.

He noted.

If for every win we are to pay a winning bonus, what happens if we do not win enough games to qualify for the tournament? Under the previous arrangement, management members received bonuses, but in the end, the team did not even qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations

The minister stressed that rather than performance-based bonuses, the committee will henceforth only get per diem payments.

The players earned nothing, yet managers walked away with bonuses. The President has made it clear: supervise and receive your per diem, but no winning bonus

The Ghana will welcome Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8 after playing Chad at N’Djamena on September 4.

Ghana is fighting for a place in the event, which will be contested in the US, Canada, and Mexico. These matches are part of Match Days 7 and 8 of the African qualifiers.

Following inconsistent performance in previous rounds, the Black Stars aim to improve their prospects of qualifying, and both games are regarded as crucial.
