Bulldog explains that Vybz Kartel, not Sarkodie, was the inspiration behind Rapperholic.
Fans who have always connected Rapperholic to Sarkodie‘s brand and power have reacted angrily to Bulldog’s remarks, which were stated during a conversation and later posted on Celebrities Buzz’s Facebook page.
Rapperholic has been regarded as Sarkodie’s signature show since its start, serving as a platform for the rapper to communicate with fans and commemorate significant moments in his career each December.
Bulldog, however, asserts that the show’s entire concept was initially linked to Vybz Kartel’s impact on Ghanaian music culture rather than Sarkodie’s own vision. He maintained that Sarkodie was only later made the face of the event, which sprang from the “ghetto youth inspiration” that Kartel symbolised over the world.
After being spread by Celebrities Buzz, his remarks sparked a discussion on whether Ghana’s most famous rap event truly originated outside of the country.
Bulldog’s assertion goes right to the core of Ghanaian music ownership and cultural influence. If accurate, Rapperholic implies that the influence of Caribbean dancehall culture on Ghanaian youth extends beyond Sarkodie’s performance.
But a lot of admirers don’t agree. Sarkodie has been establishing Rapperholic as a national brand for more than ten years, using it to launch new songs, highlight collaborations, and solidify his position as Ghana’s leading rapper. Even though Vybz Kartel’s enthusiasm inspired the concept, Sarkodie’s identity is inextricably linked to Rapperholic today.
