“I Don’t Need a Grammy — I Deserve a Diplomatic Passport” – Shatta Wale Fires

Shatta Wale disclosed in an open social media tirade that his management staff, not him, was the one who submitted his Grammy application. He asserts that his value and contribution to Ghanaian music are not determined by accolades.

“I truly don’t require a Grammy for anything. My team filed on my behalf. He declared frankly, “I deserve a diplomatic passport; I’ve done enough for Ghana.”

The vocal performer maintained that he should have national recognition at the highest level, not simply plaques and medals, for his worldwide influence, fan base, and persistent support of Ghanaian music.

He also made subtle shots at critics who frequently liken him to other Ghanaian and Nigerian performers seeking international recognition, claiming that his legacy is already solidified by his unparalleled street connection and his enormous fan base, the Shatta Movement (SM).

“I made Ghana famous in ways that no one can dispute. That should be appreciated by the system. I’m an institution, not just an award, he continued.

Since then, Shatta Wale’s remarks have generated a lot of online discussion. Some criticised him for being conceited and having the wrong priorities, while his devoted supporters supported his call for state recognition.

This most recent assertion serves as yet another reminder of why the self-described “Dancehall King” is still one of Ghana’s most vocal and significant musicians. He never backs down from controversy.

Who Is Shatta Wale

The dancehall performer, whose true name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, is well-known in the music circus as Shatta Wale.

His real name is frequently used in most internet sources, yet because of his popularity, many people have trouble remembering it.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Nii Armah Mensah Sr., he was born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. On October 17, 1984, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, as he is formally known, was born. The musician, who is currently 35, was born at the Police Hospital in Accra, Ghana.

Though most of Shatta Wale’s profile suggests he is 35 years old (turns 36 this year), others – especially spectators- believe he is way older than the said age as they claim he reduced his age to keep himself in the music game.

Speaking of education, Shatta Wale is said to have attended the Seven Great Princes Academy in the Accra neighbourhood of Dansoman. There, he showed a talent for the arts and performed in the National Theatre of Ghana’s well-known Akan drama series, By the Fireside.

Shatta Wale attended Winneba Secondary School for his high school education before finishing at Aguafo Secondary School.

Shatta Wale didn’t go to college. After graduating from high school, he immediately threw himself into his music profession.
