New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also called Chairman Wontumi, has spoken candidly about his time in the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) captivity.
During Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s trip of the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi told a few NPP delegates that he nearly died in EOCO cells after being arrested and held for more than a week.

According to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, he was housed in a cramped room with limited area for movement.
“If you see where they kept me, I nearly died. It was only God who saved me. You know, when you are dying, you start seeing your friends and family members. So, I realised I was dying and quickly started praying to God,” he said.
Chairman Wontumi stated that he endured that terrible ordeal at EOCO on behalf of the NPP and that such sacrifices should not be in vain.
The divisive politician also asked NPP delegates to choose former Ghanaian Vice President Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer in the 2028 election.
